YULE (Winter Solstice)
Northern Hemisphere - 21st December
Southern Hemisphere - 21st June
This is the time of the Goddess of the cold, darkness, and the rebirth of the Divine Child, the reborn Sun God. A time for rebirth and the turning of the earth force tides. The longest night of the year. Cleanse ourselves of all that blocks us from being born anew with the rising solstice sun.

Awe-inspiring... honestly, and I don't mean to bring the conflict here, but looking at some of these, I just don't get how some people can see this religion as evil or Satanic.
Again, words just don't do it. It could bring tears to the eyes.
This is a well-done drawing that gets to the point of what Yule really means, and it isn't Satanic whatsoever. I took classes in Wicca and found this out for myself. Its roots are pagan: The Oak King (summer) and the Holly King (winter) fight for the hand of their own mother, the Earth Goddess in whom they reincarnate. On June 21th, the Holly King slays the Oak King, while on December 21th the Oak King slays the Holly King. The myth has been Christianized and retold down through the ages, one of the better known versions being Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

Thank you for sharing that with me, I am confused about one thing. I would think that on June 21st, The Oak King would slay the Holly King, so that the winning King could rule that season, and it would be the other way around on the first day of winter. Is there a reason it is different?
Yes, there is. It has to do with the amount of sunlight we get at certain times of the year. The myth is attempting to explain why there is lessening daylight after the summer soltice, and increasing daylight following the winter soltice. It is also trying to explain weather changes at those times and its affect on livestock and plants. The cultures that these summer/winter stories came from were primitive and closely tied to the land. Therefore, they were dependent on the seasons and the weather changes that came with them to ensure good crops. And since these peoples didn't know the true cause of seasonal and climate changes as we do today, they believed certain deities caused them, and they created stories and ritutals around them. Hope this answers your question.
